russian snowball cookies

from lanette price

These cookies are the Price (ursprünglich Russian) equivalent to the Heikkinen beloved Moon Cookies, which are really just the Austrian »Vanilla Kipferln« with walnuts instead of almonds. These are a little richer, and also awesome.

  • 1 C butter
  • 1/2 C powdered sugar
  • 2 1/4 C flour
  • 3/4 C chopped nuts (walnuts are best; almonds are good too; macadamia nuts make them really rich (and likely inedible -- they're super rich already!))
  • 1 t vanilla

mix above ingredients

form dough into little balls, about a nickel-size (they'll expand). It will be dry; don't mind that the dough is crumbly. [NOTE: I had no problems with dry dough, but maybe that was the over-zealot in me going wild with the butter ...]

bake ungreased [sic] in a 350 F oven for 12 - 15 minutes

when cool, roll in powdered sugar.
